My husband is always bragging to me that he has 200 more "friends" than I do on Facebook. We started a competition months ago when we both signed up. I dropped out of that race but he kept going! While I may not have accumulated as many people as he has, I DO find it to be a great way to keep up with what's going on in people's lives who I am in touch with.
